Johor-Singapore SEZ draws RM37.1 billion in investments by mid-2025

The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) has attracted RM37.1 billion in approved investments during the first half of 2025. The bulk of this funding went into the services sector, with manufacturing also drawing significant interest. A detailed action plan for the zone's study island is currently under study and due for completion in early 2026.

Investments in the JS-SEZ have surged, with RM24 billion directed towards the services sector and RM13 billion into manufacturing. Singapore, Italy, and China emerged as the top three investing countries in the zone.

The government has set ambitious targets for the JS-SEZ, aiming to secure 50 high-impact projects within the next five years and 100 over the next decade. Alongside this, plans include creating at least 20,000 high-skilled jobs over the same period. However, no details have been released yet on how many of these projects have been approved or are currently underway.

As of September 30, the Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre Johor (IMFC-J) had handled 808 investor enquiries. Among these, 11 potential projects worth RM1.3 billion are now under consideration. The ongoing study on the JS-SEZ action island will provide further insights into investment trends and strategic development when it concludes in the first quarter of 2026.

The JS-SEZ continues to draw strong investor interest, with billions already committed to key sectors. Once the action plan study is finalised, clearer directions for future growth and project approvals are expected. The government's focus remains on high-impact projects and job creation over the coming years.
