London's first ultra-rapid EV charging hub opens near Heathrow Airport

London has taken a major step towards expanding its electric vehicle infrastructure. The first of 25 planned EV charging hubs was officially opened on June 12, 2026. It forms part of the city’s ambition to install up to 40,000 public charge points by the end of the decade. The new hub is located near Heathrow Airport and key motorways for easy access. It runs around the clock and uses only renewable energy. Drivers can use 12 ultra-rapid chargers, each delivering up to 400 kW, along with extra-wide and fully accessible bays.

To mark the launch, free charging is available at the Hatton Cross site from June 15 to June 19, 2026. More hubs are set to follow, including a flagship 36-bay facility at Hanger Lane. London already has over 175,000 battery-electric cars and vans registered, with numbers predicted to pass one million by 2030. The Hatton Cross hub is now operational and open to the public. It supports London’s target of 40,000 charge points by 2030. Further sites will roll out across the capital in the coming years.
