Strawberry imports surge 17% in early 2026 ahead of Women's Day demand

From January to May 2026, the region saw a significant rise in strawberry imports through Ussuriysk Customs. A total of 687 tons arrived via automobile checkpoints, marking a 17% increase from the previous year. The berries are transported in refrigerated containers to preserve freshness throughout the journey. The busiest period for deliveries was not summer but early March. The peak coincided with International Women’s Day on 8 March, when demand surged. Most shipments entered through the Poltavka road checkpoint, the highest-volume entry point this year.

All strawberry consignments are accompanied by phytosanitary certificates from their country of origin. Customs processes them quickly because the fruit is perishable. Experts note that strawberries are best consumed in June, alongside greens, radishes, and new potatoes, to help restore vitamin levels after winter.
