Georgia Educator Kristy Beam Wins Award for Transforming Learning Spaces

Kristy Beam, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning for City Schools of Decatur, has been recognised for her innovative approach to education. She recently received the Innovative Leader Award for 'Most Innovative Learning Spaces' at Tech & Learning’s Georgia leadership summit. Her work has transformed learning environments for the district’s 6,000 students. During the 2020-21 academic year, Beam reimagined learning spaces by introducing a virtual learning program for the district. She also embedded a social-emotional learning regimen into the program to support students holistically. Her first step during the pandemic was forming a teacher team to share responsibilities and resources.

Beam’s career spans teaching grades 3-12, administrative roles, and training future educators at university. She has also guided teachers in using data to shape strategic plans. Currently, she is leading a study to identify the best data warehousing tool for the district. The aim is to turn raw data into actionable insights for classroom instruction.

She remains enthusiastic about fostering a strong data culture within the district. Beam’s efforts have reshaped education in Decatur through technology and collaboration. The Innovative Leader Award highlights her impact on learning spaces. Her ongoing work with data tools continues to support teachers and improve student outcomes.
