DC Privacy Forum 2026 Tackles AI Governance and Digital Sovereignty Challenges

The Future of Privacy Forum held its third annual DC Privacy Forum on 10 June 2026. The event brought together government officials, academics, civil society representatives, and privacy professionals to discuss AI governance, privacy regulation, and digital technology issues. FPF CEO Jules Polonetsky opened the Forum. Board President Alan Raul then introduced keynote speaker Congressman John Joyce, M.D., who reflected on his work advancing federal privacy legislation, including his role as lead sponsor of the SECURE Data Act.

The opening panel explored the geostrategy of regulation and the rising influence of digital sovereignty initiatives worldwide. Throughout the day, participants examined a wide range of issues shaping the future of privacy, artificial intelligence, and digital governance. Discussions emphasised the need for collaboration among policymakers, industry leaders, academics, civil society organisations, and technical experts.

FPF Senior Policy Counsel Jordan Francis delivered a lightning talk on the role of enforcement in privacy governance. The concluding panel focused on personalization and youth online, debuting a new FPF report on the topic. FPF Vice President for U.S. Policy Matthew Reisman delivered closing remarks, thanking attendees, speakers, sponsors, and partners. The Forum provided a platform for in-depth discussions on critical privacy and AI governance topics. It concluded with the launch of a new report and expressions of gratitude to all involved in the event.
