Viersen's startup boom adds 197 new businesses in 2025
The Viersen district saw a rise in new businesses in 2025. Among them was MerClean, a company producing sustainable toilet cleaners and handmade natural soaps. Founded by Merlin Dolenec and Anton Palmer, the business has already gained recognition in the region. In September 2024, Dolenec and Palmer won first place and €3,000 in the Viersen Idea Cup. Their success came before the broader growth in the district’s business scene.
Across the Viersen district, 2,329 people started their own businesses in 2025. At the same time, 2,132 entrepreneurs closed theirs. This resulted in a net gain of 197 businesses for the area.
The wider IHK Mittlerer Niederrhein region experienced even greater growth. A total of 11,024 new companies were established there in 2025. With closures taken into account, the region saw a net increase of 2,029 businesses.
Jürgen Steinmetz, CEO of IHK Mittlerer Niederrhein, has since called for stronger political support for young entrepreneurs. His appeal follows the region’s positive trend in business development. The Viersen district now has 197 more businesses than at the start of 2025. Across the IHK Mittlerer Niederrhein region, the net gain reached 2,029 companies. Local startups like MerClean highlight the ongoing entrepreneurial activity in the area.
