Nordgold's Yakutia mines rank among top ten in environmental responsibility

Nordgold’s Gross and Tokkinsky gold mines have secured top-ten positions in Yakutia’s first official environmental rating of subsoil users. The ranking assessed 151 enterprises based on official data and objective criteria. It aims to boost transparency and encourage green competition among industrial companies in the region. Nordgold demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental responsibility through its high placement. The company’s sustained investments in safety and sustainability played a key role in its ranking, according to chief ecologist Alexey Gusev.

In 2024-2025, Nordgold spent over 300 million rubles on environmental protection and reforestation in Yakutia. It also planted more than 2,100 hectares of forest as part of a major campaign. All its sites use closed-loop water supply systems and ensure waste is either recycled or safely isolated.

The company regularly monitors water, soil, and biodiversity in its operational areas with expert support. Its environmental efforts extend to partnerships for protecting the eastern Siberian crane population and supporting local reindeer herding programmes. The rating confirms Nordgold’s systematic approach to environmental protection. Its high ranking highlights the effectiveness of its investments in safety and sustainability. The company’s initiatives contribute to both ecological preservation and regional transparency.
