Two Sisters Turn Childhood Curiosity Into Groundbreaking Science Careers

Angel and Lisa, raised in Las Vegas, developed a shared passion for science from a young age. Their curiosity led them to explore different paths within the field, each shaped by personal interests and experiences. Despite changes in their family life, their dedication to science remained strong. Angel’s fascination with health and fairness guided her research on traumatic brain injury and cardiovascular health. This work strengthened her application to Princeton. She also attended a virtual STEM programme focused on biochemistry.

Lisa, inspired by Marvel’s Iron Man, pursued biochemistry in person at Purdue University. She also founded organisations to empower young women and educate teens about diabetes.

Both sisters engaged in serious research, designing experiments alongside their peers. They learned that real science rarely succeeds on the first try, often forcing them to rethink their assumptions. Their experiences also taught them the value of teamwork and real-world skills beyond technical knowledge. Angel now plans to study for an advanced degree in public health and medicine at Yale. Lisa will begin pre-med studies at Princeton. Their journeys show how science can shape both careers and personal growth.
