Uttar Pradesh launches 'Sambhav 6.0' to combat maternal and child malnutrition

The Department of Child Development and Nutrition has launched the 'Sambhav 6.0' campaign in Uttar Pradesh. The initiative, guided by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, focuses on improving nutrition security from pregnancy to early childhood. It targets pregnant women, lactating mothers, newborns, and young children across the state. The campaign follows a life-cycle approach to strengthen nutrition services from conception through early childhood. Its goal is to reduce maternal and child malnutrition while enhancing overall nutrition security in Uttar Pradesh.

A comprehensive action plan has been developed in collaboration with ICDS, the Health Department, Panchayati Raj Department, UNICEF, and other partners. Micro-plans have already been distributed to all divisions and districts, with training programmes set for field-level staff. Special Nutrition Learning Centres, known as Poshan Pathshalas, will also be established to educate families on balanced nutrition, infant care, and maternal health.

The formal district-level launch is scheduled for July 2026 during District Nutrition Committees’ meetings. Progress will be tracked through weekly report cards and bi-monthly state-level reviews from July to September 2026. A preliminary assessment of the campaign’s outcomes is planned for the last week of October 2026, conducted by the Planning Department as a third-party evaluation. The campaign will run with structured monitoring and public engagement. Its success will be measured by the reduction in malnutrition rates and improved nutrition security. The state government expects tangible results by the end of the assessment period.
