Augsburg Unites for Queer Life in Landmark Cross-Media Series

Augsburg is set to host a cross-media series celebrating queer life from June 13 to July 19. The programme brings together the city, religious groups, and social organisations. It aims to create spaces for dialogue and mutual understanding across different communities. The series kicks off with an ecumenical Pride service on June 13. A professional workshop follows on June 18, with a closing event scheduled for July 15. Activities include a photo exhibition, readings, expert workshops, and guided city tours.

Participants range from the Queer-Sensitive Pastoral Care of the Diocese of Augsburg to Moritzkirche City Pastoral Care and AWO Schwubis, a local LGBTQ+ group. The initiative is a joint effort between the municipality and various religious, social, and civil society organisations. Some events will require online registration in advance.

Mayor Dr. Florian Freund spoke about the importance of diversity in Augsburg. He stated that it is a fundamental part of the city’s identity. He also stressed that making this diversity visible is a responsibility shared by all. The series seeks to foster greater openness and respect in daily life. It will provide opportunities for connection and exchange among different social groups. The events run until July 19, with activities spread across the city.
