Yakutia's Libraries Compete for Public Love in New Online Contest

A new online contest has launched in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) to celebrate local libraries. Called My Local Library: A Point of Pride, the competition invites the public to vote for their favourite institution. The event highlights the role of libraries as community hubs and centres of learning across the region.

The contest is organised by the National Library of Yakutia, working alongside the Library Association of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). A total of 35 libraries are taking part, including all municipal libraries from the region's uluses (districts) and the city of Yakutsk.

Voting opened on December 17 and will continue until December 29, 2025. Participants can cast their vote for the library they see as a second home, a source of knowledge, or a place of inspiration. The winner will be the library with the highest number of public votes.

No additional selection criteria or external libraries outside the official districts and Yakutsk city are involved. The contest focuses solely on the listed participants and their contributions to local communities.

The winning library will be announced after the voting period closes. The contest aims to recognise the importance of these institutions in daily life. Results will reflect public appreciation for the libraries that serve as cultural and educational cornerstones in Yakutia.
