Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles reports record sales despite profit slump in 2025

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWN) reported strong sales and revenue growth in 2025, despite facing financial challenges. The company delivered 428,000 vehicles, a 6% increase, while revenue rose by 11% to €16.9 billion. However, operating profit fell sharply due to regulatory pressures and market difficulties in North America.

The ID. Buzz remained a standout performer, with sales exceeding 60,000 units—more than double the previous year. This made it the clear leader in its segment across Europe. Meanwhile, the Multivan achieved its best-ever year, with deliveries climbing 31% to 38,700 units.

Order intake for VWN surged by nearly a third compared to 2024, though some deliveries were pushed into 2026. Net cash flow saw a dramatic rise, reaching €1 billion—a 208% increase over the previous year. Yet, financial struggles persisted. Operating profit dropped to €245 million, down from €743 million in 2024, with the operating return on sales falling to just 1.5%. The company cited EU CO₂ penalties and North American challenges, including tariffs and the loss of electric vehicle incentives, as key factors. Looking ahead, VWN plans a major update package for 2026. This includes new variants and features for the ID. Buzz, as well as plug-in hybrid versions of the Transporter and Caravelle. The Crafter will also expand its range with three-way tipper options, box bodies, and loading platforms tailored for commercial customers. VWN maintained its leading position in Germany and 11 other European markets. While overall electric vehicle deliveries for the Volkswagen Group grew by 55%, regional performance varied—Europe saw a 5% increase, South America 10%, but North America and China experienced declines of 12% and 6%, respectively.

VWN's 2025 results highlight a mix of strong sales growth and financial pressures. The company's focus on expanding its electric and hybrid lineup, alongside new commercial vehicle options, sets the stage for its 2026 strategy. Despite setbacks in profitability, its market dominance in Europe and rising demand for key models suggest continued resilience.
