St. Carlo Youth Day unites 600 teens in faith and bilingual devotion

Hundreds of high school students gathered at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion in Wisconsin for the first St. Carlo Youth Day since his canonisation. The event, held at the only Church-approved Marian apparition site in the U.S., drew around 600 young people for prayer, reflection, and activities. For the first time, the programme included bilingual sessions to engage both English and Spanish-speaking participants.

The day began with conferences, recreational games, and Eucharistic adoration, followed by a procession and the rosary. A first-class relic of Carlo Acutis' hair was displayed, marking its first appearance at the shrine. Students also attended Mass, with organisers emphasising the saint's relevance as a modern role model.

Nearly 40% of last year's attendees were Spanish-speaking, prompting the shrine to offer bilingual programming this year. Arnol Castellanos Pérez, a Hispanic student, shared his hope that Carlo Acutis' example would encourage others to follow Christ. Father Anthony Stephens, the shrine's rector, highlighted how the saint—who lived in the same era as today's youth—offers a relatable path to faith.

Since his canonisation on 7 September, Carlo Acutis' influence has grown globally. Exhibitions like Eucharistic Miracles in Munich, theatrical productions in Bern, and papal mentions in Portuguese media have spread his story. Known as the 'cyber-apostle,' his millennial appeal continues to reach young people beyond Italy and the UK.

The event aimed to inspire young attendees to navigate life's challenges by following Carlo Acutis' example. With bilingual support and a focus on modern faith, the shrine plans to continue engaging youth through similar gatherings. The relic's presence and growing global devotion suggest the saint's message will keep resonating with new generations.
