Semey's Yunost District Transforms with a Massive New Public Park

A new public space is taking shape in Semey's Yunost microdistrict. The project, spanning 52,620 square metres, aims to become one of the city's most popular recreational areas. Akim of Abai Region Berik Uali recently inspected its progress as the first phase nears completion.

The park in Karagaily microdistrict opened in 2023 for Republic Day. Covering around 53,000 square metres, it includes walking paths, relaxation zones, a stage, and open areas for events. Nearly 1,000 pine and fir saplings, over 9,500 ornamental shrubs, and around 8,000 perennial flowers were planted there.

The Yunost project will feature small architectural elements, benches, trash bins, and streetlights. Sports facilities include football and basketball courts, a workout area, and children's play zones. Relaxation spots will also be available for visitors.

Plans for the new space include 355 coniferous trees, 788 deciduous trees, 8,484 ornamental shrubs, and 27,408 perennial flowers. A dedicated reservoir will provide irrigation to maintain the greenery. The first phase is almost finished, with the second phase set to begin next spring.

Local resident Asylbek Alimbay praised the initiative, comparing it to the recently opened Karagaily park. Since that park's launch, no official reports confirm further public recreational projects in Semey as of February 2026.

The Yunost public space will stretch over one kilometre in length. Once complete, it is expected to attract many visitors. The project marks a significant addition to Semey's recreational infrastructure.
