Scandinavian-Inspired Tacos Land in Kuala Lumpur's Wisma Cosway

A new Scandinavian-inspired taco spot has opened in Kuala Lumpur's Wisma Cosway. Smakrik, run by Swedish chef Tobias Olsson, serves modern takes on tacos alongside other Nordic dishes. The restaurant sits on the first floor of the bustling food hub, where options range from Thai beef noodles to Mexican-style meals. Olsson's culinary journey began in Stockholm, where he worked as head chef at well-known restaurants like Pelikan, Mathias Dahlgren, and Miss Voon. Later, he took charge of the kitchen at Nobu Kuala Lumpur before launching Smakrik in 2023. The restaurant focuses on contemporary Scandinavian flavours but specialises in tacos—beef, chicken, and fish—each priced at RM9.

The beef tacos feature a rich beef and bean ragu, similar to chili con carne. Chicken tacos come with a smoky chipotle rub, topped with pineapple and corn salsa. For the fish option, a crispy battered fillet rests on a bed of tangy pickled cabbage. Diners can also opt for a meal deal: one taco with fries or Mexican tomato rice for RM17, or two tacos for RM25. Smakrik operates from Monday to Friday, between 11am and 3.30pm. The restaurant shares space in Wisma Cosway, a building packed with food choices across its ground, first, and second floors.

Smakrik adds a Nordic twist to Kuala Lumpur's taco scene. With its affordable pricing and varied menu, the restaurant offers a quick lunch option for those working or visiting Wisma Cosway. The chef's background in high-end kitchens brings a refined touch to casual dining.
