Digital Map and App for Volunteer Workers in Saxony - Saxony's Volunteer Card Goes Digital for Easier Discount Access

Volunteers in Saxony can now access discounts more easily thanks to a new digital version of the Saxon Volunteer Card. The card, which has been available for 15 years, now lets users store benefits directly on their smartphones. Over 240 providers across the region already accept the digital format.

The digital volunteer card is open to anyone aged 16 or older who meets the requirements. Volunteers must have at least two years of service, contribute a minimum of three hours per week, and live in Saxony. The traditional physical card, available from age 14, will remain valid until the end of next year.

A dedicated app helps users find nearby businesses that offer discounts. These include state, private, and municipal providers across Saxony. Around 35 percent of the region's residents currently engage in volunteer work, making the card a widely useful tool.

The new system aims to simplify access to rewards for long-term volunteers. While the physical card will eventually phase out, existing holders can keep using it for now.

The digital card expands options for volunteers while keeping the same eligibility rules. It joins a network of 240 participating providers, offering discounts across Saxony. Those with the older physical version still have time to transition before it expires at the end of 2025.
