Russia's 'Memory Garden' campaign plants 29 new sites in Khabarovsk Krai this May

Russia’s annual 'Memory Garden' campaign will see 29 new gardens planted across Khabarovsk Krai this May. The initiative, launched by President Vladimir Putin in 2020, encourages volunteers to plant trees in honour of those lost in conflicts. This year’s effort includes a special focus on commemorating participants of the special military operation. The campaign’s main event in Khabarovsk Krai will take place in Korfovsky on May 16 at 11:00 AM. Volunteers must sign up in advance through the official website to take part. Across the region, 4,249 trees will be planted in newly established gardens.

A 'Memory Garden' has already been created in Dadinskoye, featuring an alley of 15 maple and mountain ash trees. These species were selected for their ability to thrive in the local climate. Students from a nearby school joined the effort, helping to prepare and plant the trees. This year, the campaign’s interactive map will mark trees planted specifically in memory of those lost in the special military operation. The initiative continues to expand, with over 27 million trees planted annually nationwide since its launch.

The 29 new gardens in Khabarovsk Krai will add to the growing number of memorial sites across Russia. Each tree serves as a lasting tribute to those remembered by the campaign. Organisers expect strong participation from local volunteers and schools in the coming weeks.
