A new hypoallergenic baby formula, designed to closely match human breast milk, is set to launch in the U.S. by 2026. Developed by Harmony Baby Nutrition, the product—called Melodi—aims to address common issues in infant nutrition, including allergies and contamination risks. The company’s founder, Del Alfonso, brings years of expertise in nutritional science to the project.
Most baby formulas today rely heavily on cow’s milk, making up around 95% of the market. This dependence has led to frequent recalls due to contamination concerns. Many infants also struggle with allergies to these traditional formulas.
Harmony Baby Nutrition is taking a different approach. Their first product, Melodi, uses lactose and includes human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). This composition makes it nearly 50% similar to human breast milk—a significant leap from the less than 3% similarity found in conventional formulas. The goal is to reduce allergic reactions while improving digestion for babies. The company is also expanding its research efforts. Plans are underway to open a dedicated research and development centre in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. This facility will focus on advancing infant nutrition and ensuring sustainable production methods.
Melodi’s launch in 2026 could offer a safer alternative for infants with cow’s milk allergies. By mimicking breast milk more closely, the formula may reduce rejection rates and improve infant health. The new research centre in Brazil will further support the company’s long-term goals in sustainable and innovative baby nutrition.
