Hiking trail along enchanting nature - Mallorca Unveils Stunning 105-Kilometre GR-226 Hiking Trail in Llevant
A new long-distance hiking trail, the East Mallorca GR-226, officially opened in February 2026. Stretching nearly 105 kilometres, the route winds through the scenic northeastern Llevant region, offering walkers a fresh way to explore the island.
The GR-226 covers 104.82 kilometres in total, including two feeder trails that extend beyond the main 89.62-kilometre path. Divided into four daily stages, each section ranges from 22.5 to 25 kilometres, taking roughly six hours to complete.
The trail connects five municipalities: Capdepera, Artà, Son Servera, Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, and Manacor. Along the way, hikers pass through lush fields, coastal stretches, and historic villages dotted with churches and ancient fortresses. Designed for accessibility, the route features protective barriers in certain areas and a low difficulty level, making it suitable for walkers of all experience. Organisers describe the journey as an authentic glimpse into Mallorca's timeless landscapes.
The GR-226 now stands as one of Mallorca's longest marked hiking routes. Its mix of natural beauty, cultural landmarks, and gentle terrain aims to attract both seasoned trekkers and casual walkers. The trail's opening adds a new option for exploring the island's eastern coast on foot.
