Maharashtra's Koyna Backwater Festival 2026 to showcase culture and adventure

Maharashtra is set to host the Koyna Backwater Festival in December 2026. The event will take place across the picturesque Mahabaleshwar-Tapola-Munawale-Gadavali belt. Organisers aim to boost tourism and create jobs for local communities under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar. Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai recently chaired a high-level meeting to finalise plans for the festival. The event draws inspiration from Deputy CM Eknath Shinde’s goal of placing Satara on the global tourism stage.

The festival will feature a wide range of attractions. Visitors can enjoy a tent city, water sports, and helicopter rides. Entertainment will include drone and laser shows, a floating market, and decorative lighting. Traditional food fairs, cultural performances, carnival parades, and heritage experiences will also be part of the celebrations.

Infrastructure upgrades in Satara, led by Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, are underway to support the event. The festival is designed to attract both domestic and international tourists while providing employment for local youth and women. The Koyna Backwater Festival 2026 is expected to raise Maharashtra’s profile as a top tourist destination.
