Late-spring snowstorm leaves Aurora buried under fallen tree limbs

A late-spring snowstorm hit Aurora and surrounding areas on Tuesday night, causing widespread tree damage. Heavy, wet snow weighed down branches, leading to fallen limbs across roads, pavements and properties. Local authorities are now working to clear the debris while offering guidance to affected residents.

The Aurora Forestry Department reported over 80 calls about storm damage by Wednesday morning. Crews of nine people are currently removing fallen branches from city-owned trees. Their priority is clearing blockages on driveways, sidewalks and roads.

Residents dealing with damaged trees are advised to water them thoroughly to aid recovery. For disposal, Denver locals can use their compost carts or wait for scheduled large-item collection days. In Aurora, branches can be taken to the DAD Landfill or through Wompost, though both services charge a fee. Jefferson County is also responding by opening a special tree limb drop-off point. From May 7 to 17, residents can bring branches to the Jefferson County Road and Bridge Division’s South Shop. Meanwhile, gardening experts remind Coloradans to delay planting until after Mother’s Day to avoid risks from late-season snow.

The cleanup effort continues as crews work through the backlog of storm-damaged trees. Residents have multiple options for disposing of branches, though some services come with a cost. Authorities urge patience while recovery operations remain underway across affected areas.
