Krefeld’s new family program teaches nutrition to fight obesity and diabetes
A new health-focused program has launched at the DRK Family Education Center in Krefeld. The initiative aims to teach families about balanced nutrition through interactive workshops and lectures. Poor eating habits have been linked to serious conditions, including obesity and diabetes in both children and adults.
The center, recognised under North Rhine-Westphalia’s Continuing Education Act, has expanded its parent-child offerings. Alongside traditional sessions, the program now includes open meetups and creative activities. Topics cover fermenting foods, crafting healthier Carnival treats, and planning a nutritious Easter brunch.
Irina Osthoff co-developed the curriculum with an unnamed expert. The workshops address broader health risks, such as cardiovascular disease and mental well-being, tied to long-term dietary choices.
Families in Krefeld now have access to practical tools for improving their diets. The program’s hands-on approach targets weight management and disease prevention. Sessions will continue to run as part of the center’s expanded schedule.
