Khabarovsk Region transforms healthcare with year-long patient support plans

A major overhaul of healthcare support is coming to the Khabarovsk Region in 2026. Under the federal project Health for All, local Health Centers will shift to a year-long, personalized approach for patients struggling with weight, diet, or smoking. The changes aim to replace brief consultations with long-term guidance and structured follow-ups.

Starting on 1 January 2026, every patient at Khabarovsk's Health Centers will receive an individualized support plan. Doctors will focus on key risks like obesity, poor nutrition, low activity levels, tobacco use, and excessive alcohol consumption. Each person will be assigned a dedicated physician for 12 months, a significant change from the previous one-time check-ups.

Nutrition will play a central role in the new system. Many patients currently underestimate their sugar intake, even from seemingly healthy foods like sweet fruits or dairy. To address this, doctors will create tailored weekly meal plans designed to help with weight loss.

Follow-up care will also become more structured. Three months after the first visit, patients will have a telemedicine check-in to review progress and adjust advice. Those targeting weight loss will then return in person after six months for a full assessment of their results.

The updated system marks a move away from short-term advice toward continuous monitoring. Patients will now have regular contact with their doctor, along with clear dietary and lifestyle plans. The changes align with the broader Health for All initiative, which includes modernizing Health Centers across Russia.
