A ceremonial tulip planting event took place in Berlin this week, marking a gesture of friendship between Kazakhstan and Germany. The bulbs, gifted by Kazakhstan during International Green Week, were planted in a joint effort by officials from both nations. Traditional Kazakh music filled the air as the symbolic act unfolded. Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Germany, Nurlan Onzhanov, attended the ceremony alongside Markus Schick, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Onzhanov highlighted the timing of the event, coinciding with Nauryz celebrations—a traditional Kazakh spring festival. He described the planting as a meaningful symbol of bilateral ties.
Schick noted the historical roots of tulips, tracing their origins to present-day Kazakhstan. The bulbs were carefully placed in the soil by representatives from both countries, reinforcing the shared commitment to cultural and diplomatic bonds.
This event stands out as the first of its kind in recent years, with no similar symbolic plantings of Central Asian bulbs recorded in Germany or Europe over the past five years. The newly planted tulips will serve as a lasting reminder of Kazakh-German cooperation. The ceremony, blending music, tradition, and diplomacy, underscored the growing relationship between the two nations. Officials from both sides have expressed hope for continued collaboration in cultural and agricultural exchanges.
