Kanat Abdin's Beyond Sight Transforms Trash into Haunting Eco-Art

A striking new exhibition has opened at the ÖzgeEpic creative hub in Nur-Sultan. Titled Beyond Sight, the show features unconventional sculptures by artist Kanat Abdin. Each piece is crafted entirely from discarded household materials, transforming waste into thought-provoking artworks. The exhibition centres on the environmental impact of excessive consumption. Abdin’s sculptures repurpose cardboard, plastic bags, containers, and dry branches into surreal forms. Many of the works evoke female figures, selected for their elegance and mysterious presence.

One standout piece, *Mycelium*, depicts a haunting vision of humanity’s future. Abdin describes it as an unconscious figure, symbolising the consequences of resource depletion and pollution. His goal is to spark ecological awareness and challenge viewers to reconsider their habits. Togzhan Kurmanzhanova, founder of *ÖzgeEpic*, noted that recycled art remains uncommon in Kazakhstan. She believes such projects can reshape public attitudes toward sustainability. The exhibition also aims to push boundaries in the country’s contemporary art scene.

Beyond Sight runs at ÖzgeEpic with a clear message about waste and responsibility. The sculptures, built from everyday trash, urge visitors to reflect on their own consumption. The event marks a bold step for eco-conscious art in Kazakhstan.
