John Lam's bold new dance company debuts Forward in Boston

Former Boston Ballet principal John Lam has launched a new non-profit dance company called Lam Dance Works. The group’s debut performance took place last November, and its next production, Forward, is set to challenge expectations with an edgy, unpredictable style. Lam Dance Works operates with a flexible team of dancers and choreographers. Its first show featured third-year Boston Conservatory student Demetris Michaelides, who now serves as rehearsal director for Forward. The upcoming production will blend ballet, contemporary ballet, and a hybrid piece bridging contemporary and commercial dance.

*Forward* will premiere at Boston’s Paramount Center on May 15th and 16th. The programme includes three world premieres and three Boston premieres. Lam describes the show as bold and unexpected, aiming to surprise audiences. Beyond performances, Lam is working with Boston Public Schools to teach students about live theatre. His company also seeks to prepare conservatory dancers for professional careers by offering real-world experience.

The May performances will mark Lam Dance Works’ second major production. Tickets are available for the Paramount Center shows, with the company continuing its mission to connect education, training, and public performance.
