Shauna Sledge turned her passion for healthy eating into a thriving business with Paleo Diet Foods. The company, now known as The Paleo Ranch, produces nutrition bars made from whole, unprocessed ingredients. Her journey began long before she appeared on Shark Tank, where she pitched her idea to investors for the first time.
Before launching Paleo Diet Foods, Sledge balanced multiple roles as a fitness instructor, part-time dental hygienist, and mother to three children. Her inspiration struck after meeting Dr. Loren Cordain, often called the 'Godfather' of the Paleo diet movement. Together, they developed a nutrition bar aligned with Paleo principles—free from dairy, gluten, and processed additives.
The bars contain nine essential amino acids and 17 grams of protein, using only natural ingredients like eggs, meat, vegetables, seeds, nuts, and berries. Cordain endorsed the product as high-quality, reinforcing its credibility in the health food market.
In 2016, the company rebranded as The Paleo Ranch and expanded rapidly. It now sells through major retailers like Walmart and Shaw's, as well as a successful Amazon store. By 2026, the brand had grown its product line beyond snacks and bars, adding meat snacks, protein powders, ready meals, and baking mixes. Its presence strengthened particularly in the German-speaking online retail sector, with increased availability on Amazon and its own webshop.
Sledge initially sought a $150,000 investment for a 20% stake in the company during her Shark Tank appearance. The pitch reflected years of work building a business rooted in the belief that modern diets should mirror the unprocessed foods of the Paleolithic era.
The Paleo Ranch has evolved from a single product into a diverse health food brand. Its expansion into new markets and product categories has solidified its place in the industry. The company continues to grow, offering Paleo-friendly options to a wider audience through both online and physical stores.
