Honolulu’s vegan food revolution brings bold flavors and local ingredients

Honolulu’s plant-based dining scene is blossoming, with several eateries offering fully vegan or vegetarian menus. From wood-fired pizzas to sushi and soft serve, these spots focus on fresh, handmade dishes. Many also collaborate with local farmers to source their ingredients.

Floralia stands out as a wood-fired pizzeria with a fully vegan menu. Diners can choose from classics like marinara and Margherita or try specialty pies such as the Brooklyn pizza and calzone Napoletana.

Tane Vegan Izakaya brings Japanese flavours with a plant-based twist. The restaurant offers a chef’s choice 10-piece sushi set and hosts happy hour twice daily from Monday to Thursday—first between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m., then again from 8:30 p.m. until closing. For lighter meals, Aloha Salads serves bowls packed with local produce. Popular options include the Aloha Passion and Ono Island Ahi salad, both made with ingredients from nearby farms and fishermen. Peace Cafe provides hearty vegan dishes, all prepared by hand. The menu features items like katsu plates and Moroccan stew, ensuring a mix of global flavours. Niu Soft Serve specialises in dairy-free desserts, rotating new flavours every two weeks. Their cookie sundaes add an extra treat for those with a sweet tooth. Ganesh Dosa focuses on South Indian cuisine, serving both vegan and vegetarian dosas. Toppings range from traditional potato masala to sun-dried tomatoes and avocado. The Valley Health Bar rounds out the options with a variety of tacos, sandwiches, wraps, and salads. Favourites include the Kalama Valley tacos and the Waipio Valley sandwich.

These restaurants showcase Honolulu’s expanding plant-based food choices. Each spot brings something different, from handcrafted dishes to locally sourced ingredients. Together, they offer a wide range of vegan and vegetarian meals across the city.
