Honda Civic Tops List of Most Reliable New Cars for Long-Term Value

A new study by iSeeCars has ranked the most reliable new cars based on long-term value. The research considered factors like lifespan, depreciation, maintenance costs, repair frequency, and safety. Among the top 25, Japanese brands dominated, with Honda, Nissan, and Toyota each placing four models.

The Honda Civic took the top spot as the longest-lasting model at the lowest price. Costing £27,768, it offers a predicted lifespan of 13.5 years, bringing its annual cost to £2,058. Close behind, the Toyota Corolla ranked second with a £25,423 price tag and an 11.3-year lifespan, equating to £2,258 per year.

The Mazda Mazda3 hatchback secured third place, priced at £31,801 and lasting an estimated 13.8 years, resulting in an annual cost of £2,300. Three hybrids—the Toyota Prius, Camry, and Honda Civic—also made the list, highlighting their efficiency and durability.

Hyundai and Mitsubishi each contributed one model, both offering longer warranty periods than most competitors. The Lexus IS stood out as the only luxury vehicle in the top 25, ranking 15th. Meanwhile, Jeep became the first U.S. brand to appear, landing at 16th place.

For comparison, the average new car costs £46,699 and lasts around 11 years, working out to £4,251 annually. Ford, Mazda, and MINI each had two models featured in the rankings.

The study highlights the strong performance of Japanese automakers in long-term reliability. Models like the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla offer the best balance of affordability and durability. With hybrids and extended warranties also making an impact, buyers have clear options for cost-effective, dependable vehicles.
