Hodo Foods triples US reach as plant-based protein demand explodes

Hodo Foods has rapidly expanded across the US in the past two years. The company's plant-based products now appear in over 5,000 stores, up from just 1,500 in 2024. Growth has been driven by new retail partnerships and rising demand for plant-based proteins.

The brand's reach has grown through deals with major chains like Target, Kroger, and Costco. Online sales have also climbed, with products available on Amazon and through Hodo's own website. While most sales remain in the US, the company has begun limited expansion into Canada, the UK, Germany, and Japan.

Tofu's popularity has surged further as more consumers turn to high-protein, low-calorie foods. The rise of GLP-1 medications has boosted interest in plant-based options like tofu, which offers all nine essential amino acids along with calcium, iron, and magnesium. Hodo's organic, non-GMO plant-based products pack over 36 grams of protein per package, appealing to health-conscious shoppers.

Minh Tsai, Hodo's founder, has long championed whole plant proteins as a simple way to eat well. The company's pre-marinated and seasoned plant-based cuts down on prep time, making it easier for busy consumers. Hodo also shares recipes like Coconut and Curry Soup and Kung Pao Tofu on its website, encouraging creative ways to use the product.

Hodo's plant-based products are now widely available in grocery stores and restaurants nationwide. The company's focus on convenience, nutrition, and flavour has helped it grow quickly. With demand for plant-based proteins still rising, its products are likely to remain a staple for health-focused shoppers.
