GSIS Launches Affordable Bike and E-Mobility Loans for Members

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has launched a new loan programme to help members cut transport costs. Called the Ginhawa Bike and E-Mobility Loan (GBEL), it offers affordable financing for bicycles and electric mobility devices. The scheme was introduced on Monday as part of broader efforts to ease daily commuting expenses. The GBEL allows qualified members to borrow up to 100% of the purchase price for brand-new bicycles and electric vehicles. Covered items include e-bikes, e-scooters, e-mopeds, cargo e-bikes, and folding e-bikes. Loans can reach a maximum of PHP300,000, repayable over 36 months at a fixed 5% annual interest rate with no service fees.

Applications are processed entirely online through the GSIS Touch app. The programme builds on the earlier Ginhawa Solar Energy Loan (GSEL), which focused on reducing household electricity bills. Now, it extends financial support to transportation needs. GSIS President Wick Veloso highlighted the scheme’s practical benefits for government workers. He noted that it provides a cheaper and more flexible alternative to traditional commuting. The initiative also aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s UPLIFT agenda, which aims to create more livable and accessible communities.

The GBEL offers government employees a low-cost way to purchase bicycles and electric transport. With a simple online application and no hidden fees, the programme targets daily commuting challenges. It forms part of a wider push to improve mobility and affordability for public sector workers.
