Gina Tovar joins ICL to lead digital logistics expansion with BMW
Gina Tovar has joined ICL after spending six years at BMW Group, where she led vehicle distribution and logistics projects. Her appointment comes as ICL expands its digital logistics services with BMW, signing a second contract covering Europe and Canada. Tovar brings extensive experience from roles at Volkswagen and BMW, specialising in strategy and global operations.
Tovar's career in automotive logistics spans over two decades. She began at Volkswagen de Mexico before moving to Volkswagen Group Logistics in North America. There, she first used ICL's digital solutions, which helped her team improve performance and cost transparency.
In 2018, she joined BMW Group to transform inbound logistics processes. Her work expanded to central planning for vehicle distribution across Latin America, focusing on strategy and overseas operations. During this time, ICL's collaboration with BMW grew steadily. After their initial 2018 contract, the partnership extended to multiple sites in 2020, expanded across Europe in 2022, and integrated AI-driven optimisations in 2024—boosting efficiency by over 30%. ICL recently secured a second contract with BMW for digital finished vehicle logistics, covering Europe and Canada. Patrick Donahoe, ICL's CEO and founder, welcomed Tovar's arrival, highlighting her deep industry knowledge and firsthand experience with the company's technology.
Tovar's move to ICL follows years of leadership in automotive logistics, from Volkswagen to BMW. Her expertise aligns with ICL's growing role in digital vehicle distribution, particularly as the company strengthens its ties with BMW. The new contract reflects ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency through technology and strategic partnerships.
