TV Tips for Monday - German TV tonight: Crime, sugar debates, and Shark Tank pitches

German TV viewers have a busy evening ahead with a mix of thrillers, crime dramas, and documentaries. From a high-stakes search for a missing wife to an investigation into sugar's health risks, tonight's schedule offers something for everyone. Several channels are also airing popular films and business pitch shows.

At 8:15 PM, ZDF kicks off the night with Unter anderen Umständen: The Nameless Girl, a crime drama. Commissioner Jana Winter takes on the case of an unidentified victim, known only as 'Sunny'. Meanwhile, kabel eins is showing Ant-Man and the Wasp, a sci-fi adventure where Scott Lang teams up with Hope Van Dyne to rescue her mother from the quantum realm.

Over on VOX at the same time, Shark Tank returns with entrepreneurs pitching unusual inventions. These include a protective case for condoms and a beer coaster called 'Bierbommel'.

At 8:30 PM, Das Erste airs Hirschhausen and the Sugar Trap, a documentary examining Germany's high sugar intake. The programme highlights that Germans consume an average of 33 kilograms of sugar per person each year. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends limiting free sugars to less than 10% of total energy intake, ideally 5%. Germany exceeds this, and the WHO's 2025 report criticises Europe's low sugar taxes, noting that only 42% of the region has implemented them. Germany has no such tax in place.

Later, at 10:15 PM, ZDF screens the action thriller Chase. The film follows Will Spann as he races against time to find his missing wife, Lisa.

Tonight's lineup spans crime, science fiction, business, and health themes. Viewers can choose between gripping investigations, superhero action, or a hard-hitting look at sugar's effects. The WHO's recommendations for health equity remain unmet in Germany, leaving sugar consumption a topic of ongoing debate.
