German School Program Teaches Kids How Healthy Eating Transforms Lives
A school program in Germany has taught children how healthy eating can improve their daily lives. Called Eat Right—Your Game Changer, the course ran at Carmen-Sylva School and combined lessons with hands-on cooking. Students under 14 learned that nutritious food can be both tasty and fun to prepare. The initiative began in 2022, led by social worker Anne Lönning. She partnered with Nina Kieß and Paulina Sauerborn from the Institute for Nutrition Communication (InEKo) in Koblenz. Together, they designed a program tailored to young people, focusing on practical skills rather than just theory.
The course started with classroom lessons before moving into a four-week practical phase. During this time, students tested healthy recipes at home. Weekly videos, recipe tips, and digital updates kept both children and parents engaged. As the program wrapped up, two final in-person sessions included discussions on how social media influencers affect eating habits. Every participant received a certificate for completing the course. The response from students was enthusiastic, especially during the cooking activities. Feedback showed high motivation and a clear understanding of how diet impacts well-being. Many children said they now saw healthy food in a more positive light.
The program demonstrated that simple changes in diet can make a real difference to young people’s health. By mixing education with interactive cooking, it helped students develop habits that could protect against future illnesses. The success at Carmen-Sylva School suggests similar courses could benefit other schools in the region.
