GCash tightens security with device limits and biometric checks

GCash, the Philippines’ top finance superapp, has rolled out new security measures to protect users from fraud. The platform now restricts account access to a single device at a time while adding extra verification for sensitive transactions. One of the key updates is Account Secure, which limits logins to one device. This prevents unauthorised access if a user’s credentials are compromised. For high-risk actions or large transactions, DoubleSafe requires a selfie scan to confirm identity.

GCash has also cracked down on fraudulent merchants, blocking over 4,900 linked to quishing—a scam involving fake QR codes. Users can now check their transaction history and receive error alerts to spot suspicious activity early.

Support options have expanded too. Gigi, the app’s chat agent, assists with account issues and offers step-by-step guidance. For more complex problems, such as unauthorised transactions, live agents are available. The GCash Help Center provides articles, lets users submit requests, and report concerns directly. The app continues to urge users to report suspicious behaviour and only transact through official channels. With stricter device controls, biometric checks, and proactive fraud blocking, GCash aims to reduce risks while keeping support accessible. These changes come as digital payment scams grow more sophisticated in the region.
