Fürth celebrates the start of asparagus season with a ceremonial harvest

The asparagus season has officially kicked off in the Fürth district and the city of Fürth. The ceremonial first harvest took place at Rotter Farm in Ritzmannshof, marking the start of a much-anticipated time for local food lovers. District Administrator Bernd Obst and Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Jung were on hand to celebrate the occasion.

The Rotter family has been growing asparagus for over 50 years, with the first crops planted in the mid-1970s. Today, Christoph Rotter, the sixth generation to lead the farm, oversees around 70 hectares of land, with one hectare dedicated to asparagus. The family sells their produce exclusively through their farm shop and a handful of local restaurants.

Sustainability plays a key role in their operations. The farm runs a biogas plant and solar panels, which theoretically cover 100% of its energy needs. Christoph Rotter stressed the importance of innovation and teamwork in maintaining the farm’s success. Asparagus itself is packed with vitamins, minerals, and trace elements. It also has natural diuretic properties, making it a popular choice for health-conscious consumers.

The start of the asparagus season brings fresh, locally grown produce to the region. With a focus on sustainability and quality, Rotter Farm continues to supply the community with a nutritious and enjoyable crop. The season is expected to provide both culinary pleasure and a boost to well-being for those who enjoy it.
