Free Wiesbaden Lecture Explores Rising Food Intolerances and Gut Health
A free public lecture on food intolerances will take place in Wiesbaden on December 3, 2025. The event, titled A Good Gut Feeling: Understanding Food Intolerances, is part of the Understandable Medicine series. Experts will discuss rising concerns around allergies, intolerances, and digestive health in a two-hour session open to all.
The evening will begin at 5:30 PM in the Municipal Council Chamber at Wiesbaden City Hall. Nutrition scientist Caroline Hehner will open with a talk on Nutrition for Metabolic Syndrome and Fatty Liver Disease. Following this, Dr. Hanan Adib-Tezer will address Food Allergies: New and Hidden Allergens on the Rise.
Food intolerances differ from classic allergies, as they stem from digestive disorders rather than immune reactions. Common issues include lactose intolerance and fructose malabsorption. Around 20 percent of Germans report unexplained discomfort after eating, highlighting the need for clearer information. After the presentations, Prof. Dr. Franz-Josef Prott will lead a Q&A session. The event will run until 7:30 PM, with no specific dietary advice or measures for intolerance sufferers provided in advance.
The lecture offers a chance for the public to learn about food intolerances and metabolic health without charge. Attendees can ask questions directly to specialists in the field. Further details on the programme are available through Wiesbaden City Hall.
