Collagen Chocolate Bars May Aid Weight Loss, Study Finds

A recent Spanish study has found that a collagen-fortified chocolate bar could help with weight loss. Researchers tested the treat on overweight and obese adults, with results showing modest but measurable benefits. The findings suggest that collagen's ability to promote fullness may play a key role. The study involved 64 participants over a three-month period. One group ate a chocolate bar containing 10 grams of collagen twice daily, while the other received a placebo. Those in the collagen group were instructed to consume the treat 45 minutes before their main meals.

On average, participants who ate the collagen-enriched bars lost 3 kilograms, compared to 2 kilograms in the control group. The researchers noted that the collagen group also experienced slightly greater reductions in blood pressure, waist circumference, and liver fat. They believe these effects may stem from reduced hunger, as collagen can bind large amounts of water, expanding in the stomach and triggering early satiety.

Despite these promising results, no further worldwide studies on collagen-enriched foods for weight loss have been identified since 2023. Available research continues to focus on unrelated topics like intermittent fasting and cannabinoids, leaving collagen's potential largely unexplored in recent years. The study highlights collagen's possible role in managing appetite and supporting weight loss. While the effects were modest, the findings suggest that collagen-fortified foods could offer a simple strategy for overweight individuals. However, further research is needed to confirm and expand on these initial results.
