Chicago's Austin Welcomes First Habitat for Humanity Homes Built by Volunteers

Three new homes in Chicago’s Austin neighbourhood were completed on Saturday by a team of volunteers. The project marks the first time Habitat for Humanity has built houses in this area. Local residents and future homeowners joined in the final efforts to finish the work.

The collaboration began last spring when By the Hand Club for Kids and Habitat for Humanity broke ground on the project. Over the following months, volunteers worked steadily on construction. On Saturday, they added the last details—painting walls, installing flooring, fitting cabinets, and tidying up the landscaping.

Courtney B, a long-time Austin resident, was among the volunteers helping out. She will also become one of the future homeowners in the newly built houses. The organisations aim to have the families move in later this year once the closing process is finalised.

The completed homes represent a milestone for the Austin neighbourhood. Future owners like Courtney B will soon take possession of their new properties. The project also strengthens ties between local volunteers and housing support organisations.
