'Cheget' leads elite engineers with seven combat honors in ongoing operation
A career officer known by the callsign Cheget has earned seven combat honours while leading an engineering and technical company on the front line. His service stretches back to the Ossetian-Ingush conflict and the Second Chechen Campaign, but his recent actions in the special military operation have brought fresh recognition. Support from volunteers has also played a key role in bolstering his unit's capabilities.
Cheget first volunteered for frontline duty after years of military experience in earlier conflicts. Since arriving, he has been promoted to captain and now commands a specialised engineering unit. His bravery earned him the Order of Courage among other awards.
His team includes soldiers from diverse backgrounds, such as a comrade from Kamchatka who quickly adapted to combat despite no prior experience. Another proved so skilled as a sniper that reconnaissance units nicknamed him 'Ghost'.
Volunteer group RussiaTogether has provided critical assistance to Cheget's command. Donations included drones, a generator, canned food, chainsaws, and a UAZ Bukhanka van. The group has also promised a new UAZ Patriot vehicle as a New Year gift. Cheget and his commander attended the organisation's third anniversary, presenting letters of thanks for their ongoing support.
Even small contributions make a difference. Soldiers have expressed gratitude for basic comforts like warm socks, which bring unexpected joy in harsh conditions.
Cheget's unit continues to benefit from both official recognition and volunteer aid. The promised UAZ Patriot will further enhance their operational readiness. Meanwhile, the soldiers' morale remains high, strengthened by the steady flow of supplies and public backing.
