Canucks' Lunar New Year logo blends hockey and Chinese heritage for 2026

The Vancouver Canucks have unveiled a special logo maker for the 2026 Lunar New Year. Designed by local artist Carolyn Wong, it celebrates the Year of the Fire Horse with a blend of hockey tradition and cultural symbolism. The artwork merges the team's iconic orca emblem with a dynamic horse, reflecting themes of unity and energy.

Carolyn Wong, a Vancouver-based illustrator and mural artist of Chinese descent, created the logo to honour the city's diverse community. The design features a horse seamlessly integrated into the Canucks' orca, its mane flowing into the orca's fins to symbolise connection. Traditional red and gold hues dominate the artwork, representing luck and prosperity in Chinese culture.

The horse itself embodies independence, freedom, and forward momentum—key traits associated with the animal in Chinese tradition. Surrounding flames add intensity, reflecting the fire element of 2026, which signifies passion and transformative energy. Wong's collaboration with the Canucks highlights the growing visibility of Asian culture in Vancouver.

For Wong, the project is deeply personal. She hopes the logo will inspire strength and purpose across the Lower Mainland, celebrating both the Lunar New Year and the region's rich cultural diversity.

The logo will mark the Canucks' celebrations for the Year of the Fire Horse in 2026. Its fusion of hockey and heritage aims to resonate with fans while honouring Vancouver's Chinese community. The team plans to feature the design in upcoming events and merchandise.
