Cần Thơ gears up for April's book fair and cake festival extravaganza

Cần Thơ is preparing for two major cultural events in April. The city will first host its fifth book fair from April 15 to 21, celebrating Việt Nam Book and Reading Culture Day. Just days later, the annual Southern Traditional Cake Festival will take place from April 26 to May 1, drawing crowds with food, music, and hands-on activities. The book fair will open on April 15, showcasing thousands of titles from 20 southern publishing houses and distributors. It coincides with the 50th anniversary of Cần Thơ Library, offering readers a chance to explore new releases and meet authors. Interactive sessions between writers and visitors will also form part of the programme.

Following the book fair, the Southern Traditional Cake Festival will welcome around one million guests over six days. The event will feature 200 to 250 stalls selling signature sweet and savoury cakes, alongside specialty dishes, Mekong Delta fruits, and OCOP products. Traditional music and folk games will add to the lively atmosphere.

For those eager to learn, over 100 artisans will lead cooking demonstrations and workshops. Visitors can try their hand at making traditional cakes or join competitions. The festival aims to preserve and promote the region's culinary heritage through hands-on experiences. Both events will highlight Cần Thơ's cultural and gastronomic traditions. The book fair runs from April 15 to 21, while the cake festival follows from April 26 to May 1. Organisers expect strong attendance, with activities designed for locals and tourists alike.
