BOMESI's Fifth Accelerator Cohort Expands Support for Black-Owned Media

The Black-Owned Media Equity & Sustainability Institute (BOMESI) is gearing up for its fifth Accelerator cohort while planning future Summits. Founded by Rhonesha Byng, the organization supports Black and diverse-owned media in securing brand deals and sustainable funding.

BOMESI launched with a database of 50 Black-owned media platforms. That number has since expanded to over 300. The group operates on three core pillars: ecosystem building, education, and economic empowerment.

The BOMESI Accelerator helps publishers become 'business-ready' for larger brand partnerships. Every cohort has continued operating after completing the program. Participants gain access to tools like the Bomisi Scale, an IP-backed revenue model that lets publisher groups win deals together and share proceeds with smaller sites.

BOMESI also plans to turn the Bomisi Scale into a software tool for wider adoption. The annual Summit strengthens community ties between publishers and partners. Recently, Press Forward awarded BOMESI $750,000 to grow its ad network and accelerator initiatives.

With funding secured and a growing network, BOMESI is expanding its support for Black and diverse-owned media. The upcoming Accelerator cohort and future Summits will further its mission of sustainability and equity in publishing.
