Bhopal's Shri Ram Sangrahalaya to Bring Ramayana's Epic Journey to Life

A new museum dedicated to Lord Ram, named Shri Ram Sangrahalaya, is set to be built in Bhopal’s Shyamala Hills. The project will cost Rs 15 crore and occupy a 15,000 sq ft plot. Its design will draw inspiration from the historic Sri Ramraja Temple in Orchha. The museum’s facade will mirror the architecture of Orchha’s Sri Ramraja Temple. Stones sourced from the Orchha region will form part of the construction. Inside, the ground floor will showcase a detailed model of Lord Ram’s 14-year exile, featuring replicas of Ayodhya, the royal palace, the Saryu River, Kishkindha, and the bridge to Lanka.

Visitors will explore multiple galleries, including an audio section with recordings of Ramayana songs, bhajans, and recitals from across India. The video gallery will display Ramlila performances from India and abroad. A dedicated mukhauta gallery will exhibit masks used by actors in Ramlila plays to depict characters from the epic. The museum will also house a 50-seater mini theatre for presentations and events. Plans have been finalised, with a detailed project report submitted to the state culture department. Construction will begin once official approval is granted.

The Shri Ram Sangrahalaya aims to preserve and showcase the cultural heritage of Ramayana through models, performances, and artefacts. Upon completion, it will serve as a centre for devotees, scholars, and tourists interested in Lord Ram’s life and traditions. The project marks a significant addition to Bhopal’s cultural landscape.
