Baltimore's Free Community Cookout Offers Meals and Groceries to 200 Families
A Baltimore organisation is hosting a free food distribution event this weekend to support local families. KEYS Empowers will hold a community cookout on Saturday, offering meals and groceries to around 200 households. The gathering also aims to collect feedback on a planned new facility for the area. The event takes place at 1511 Ashburton Street from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees will receive a barbecue lunch, groceries, and backpacks filled with food staples for children. A DJ will provide entertainment during the cookout.
KEYS Empowers is currently building the KEYS Community Healing Village, a facility designed to provide year-round support. Once open, it will serve meals to 300 families daily, addressing gaps left by school meal programmes. The organisation’s founder, Mujahid Muhammad, wants residents to share their ideas for the new centre. A task force has already formed to plan more community events. The goal is to keep engaging with locals while expanding services through the upcoming facility.
Saturday’s cookout will offer immediate food relief while gathering input for future projects. The new KEYS Community Healing Village is expected to provide daily meals and long-term support once construction is complete. Further events will continue to connect with residents in the coming months.
