Anthro Energy has unveiled a new injectable electrolyte designed to improve battery performance and safety. The technology, which replaces traditional lithium-ion electrolytes, promises longer lifespans and higher energy density. Now, the company is setting up a major production facility in Louisville, Kentucky, backed by state and federal support. The company’s breakthrough involves a proprietary phase-change electrolyte that can be injected into existing battery designs. This drop-in replacement enhances safety, extends battery life, and boosts energy storage capacity. In 2022, Anthro Energy’s battery technology reached the finals of the US Army’s xTech programme, highlighting its potential for defence applications.

The new factory in Louisville will produce these advanced electrolytes, focusing on electric vehicle batteries, consumer electronics, and energy storage systems. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear welcomed the investment, which totals $42 million and is expected to create 400 jobs. The state’s strong military presence, including Fort Knox and Fort Campbell, will play a role in workforce development, with plans to collaborate on training and recruitment with veterans’ organisations. Federal support for the project includes a $24.9 million grant from the US Department of Energy. The funding will help scale up production of semi-solid electrolytes, positioning the factory as a key supplier for defence, industrial, and clean energy sectors.

Anthro Energy’s Kentucky facility will begin operations with a focus on high-performance batteries for multiple industries. The project combines private investment, state backing, and federal funding to advance battery technology. Once fully operational, the factory aims to meet growing demand for safer, more efficient energy storage solutions.
