90-Year-Old Janitor Celebrates 50 Years of Service with Heartfelt School Tribute

A 90-year-old veteran has spent half a century cleaning Tantasqua Regional High School’s auditorium. Bobby Collins, known for his dedication, was recently honoured with a surprise birthday celebration. The entire school came together to mark the occasion on May 22, making it a memorable Memorial Day weekend for him. Collins began his work at the school 50 years ago and remains a familiar face to staff and students. Many see him as a father or grandfather figure, drawing inspiration from his commitment and energy. His daily routine includes a simple diet of the same foods, plenty of water, and grapes—habits he credits for his longevity.

The school organised a special event to celebrate his 90th birthday. Students and teachers gathered to sing, present gifts, and share hugs. Collins received a citation, T-shirts, a tribute video, and heartfelt poems. He took a moment to thank his wife of over 50 years, calling her his greatest supporter. Despite his age, Collins has no intention of slowing down. He follows the motto *‘To rest is to rust’* and insists on staying active. His positive outlook and work ethic continue to motivate those around him.

The celebration highlighted Collins’ deep connection to the school community. Principal Peter Dufresne publicly thanked him for his decades of service. With no retirement in sight, Collins plans to keep moving—and keep working—for years to come.
