Sverdlovsk Region Releases 24,000 Carp to Boost Local Ecosystems
Authorities in the Sverdlovsk Region have released thousands of young carp into three protected water bodies. The stocking effort was led by specialists from the regional Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology. The move aims to support the ecological balance of local reservoirs and ponds.
Around 8,000 carp were introduced into each of the Volchikhinsky Reservoir, Novo-Mariinsky Reservoir, and Upper-Sysertsky Pond. These water bodies hold regional protected status, making their upkeep a priority for environmental officials.
The initiative falls under the state program Ensuring Rational and Safe Nature Management in the Sverdlovsk Region. Carp were chosen for their role in maintaining water quality, as they feed on bottom algae and help clean natural ecosystems.
The release of carp is expected to improve water clarity and support biodiversity in the protected areas. Officials have not released further details on the broader stocking efforts under the regional program. The project remains part of ongoing conservation work in Sverdlovsk.
