Magadan retirees embrace part-time jobs as flexible work surges 52% in key sectors

Retirees in Magadan Oblast are increasingly turning to part-time work, with job opportunities in certain sectors rising sharply. A recent study by Avito Side Jobs reveals a growing trend among older workers seeking flexible employment. The data highlights both the demand for seasonal roles and the preferences of retirees looking to supplement their income.

Analysts at Avito Side Jobs reviewed part-time job listings in Magadan Oblast between March 1 and April 15. Their findings showed a significant rise in vacancies for retirees, particularly in delivery and freight transport. Openings in this sector grew by 52% compared to the same period last year, marking a 1.5-fold increase overall.

The survey also explored the preferences of retirees aged 65 and older. A majority—61%—expressed interest in retail positions, with 26% favouring roles involving minimal customer interaction, such as warehouse work. Another 21% were considering shift work during the May holidays to take advantage of seasonal demand. Nationally, the most common part-time roles for retirees included delivery, freight transport, logistics, taxi services, and retail. Dmitry Korolev, Senior Director of Avito Side Jobs, noted that part-time work offers retirees a flexible way to balance employment with personal plans. He added that many use the extra income for specific goals, such as travel—20% of respondents said they would spend their earnings on trips.

The data suggests a clear shift in how retirees approach work after retirement. With more job openings in delivery, transport, and retail, older workers in Magadan Oblast have greater options for seasonal and flexible employment. The trend reflects both economic opportunities and changing attitudes toward post-retirement income.
